PS Plus January 2020: PS4 free games
PS Plus January 2020 news could be coming today for PS4 gamers looking to find out what the next PlayStation free games are, or a long wait might be being planned.
Breaking with tradition, Sony failed to reveal the PS Plus January 2020 lineup of free PS4 games on the last Wednesday of the current month. The tech giant has stuck to this routine for most of 2019 and means that PlayStation Plus subscribers have had to wait a little longer than usual. The question now is how long gamers will have to wait for the new PS4 games collection to be announced by Sony?
Looking back on past changes, we would expect the official PlayStation Plus news for next month to be shared later today, December 26.
That was the date it was revealed last year, and it would make sense that Sony delayed the news from December 25 for 24-hours.
If that proves correct, gamers should be finding out the big news by around 4:30pm, GMT, on Thursday, December 26.
However, Sony has said nothing on its changed plans, and there’s a good chance they could push back sharing the news even further.
Because of the way the dates fall, the January 2020 free PS Plus games might not be revealed until 4.30pm UK time on January 1.
This would be followed by the new PS4 free games becoming available to download less than a week later on Tuesday, January 7.
The only benefit is that with so many people receiving new consoles for Christmas, it gives them extra time to download the December 2019 free PS4 games.
So it will be worth fans keeping an eye out for the latest PS Plus game news from Sony over the coming days.
Due to the vast number of games available on PS4, it’s very hard to predict what could be part of the January lineup.
Fans have made their own predictions, with many hoping for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, while other ideas include Resident Evil 2 Remake, although this seems unlikely based on it launching less than 12 months ago.
Others expect to see The Order 1886 included at some point in the future and have featured on every PS Plus prediction thread since time immemorial.
Ubisoft games like Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry Primal both get a mention, alongside Firewatch, BioShock The Collection and Sleeping Dogs.
Some gamers believe that Star Wars Battlefront 2 could be part of the lineup, based on its growing popularity.
Battlefront 2 was launched back in 2017 and was slated for the microtransaction system put in place by EA.
Since then, major revamps have been made, and free updates have continued to be released for the game.
And it was recently announced that Battlefront 2 had seen a big rise in player numbers following its disastrous launch.
Dennis Brännvall, Franchise Design Director of Star Wars Battlefront, shared the news on Twitter with fans.
“Fun one, we’re now beating our weekly player numbers going back to January 2018. Not quite launch numbers but still very impressive,” he posted.
The launch of the final Skywalker Star Wars film in cinema may have also had something to do with it, but it appears that the game has been on a solid upswing for some time.
It was recently revealed that the inclusion of Titanfall 2 as part of the PS Plus lineup in December had helped boost player numbers.
There was a peak of 90,000+ logging in to try the first-person shooter on PS4 during the first days of the current month.
And Titanfall 2 is still available to claim as part of your PS Plus free games library and will be until early January.
This is alongside Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame, which includes its own track editor.
